Owen County has been blessed with many talented artists!
Art is expressed throughout Owen County not just in the form of paintings but also through craft projects and sculptures and even dogs made out of coffee grounds!
If you want to browse through the work of local artists then the Art Guild is the place to be. You can see paintings and drawings that display a wide variety of subjects. Also, while you’re there you might even be able to get a bite to eat!
If you’re an art connoisseur or perhaps you like to travel and sell your art then Arts in the Park is an event you won’t want to miss! Every year vendors and artists gather at McCormick’s Creek State Park to display their art and the event attracts a wide variety of local artists.
Ken Bucklew is a local artist that has now been recognized all over the world. His work depicts the beauty of nature and it all happens right here in Owen County! His studio is setup across from McCormick’s Creek State Park where you can view his gallery and purchase his paintings.
As part our regional tourism initiative, several communities across the region will be instituting an annual chalk art competition, be culminated with a regional championship at the end of the season or the beginning the following season.
If you love the art of pottery check out Tamarack Stoneware. They offer handmade pottery including communion sets, canisters, vases, bowls, and other housewares. Here you can find ceramics that are whimsical and unique and Owen County native!
Owen County’s Chalk It Up competition is scheduled for June on the courthouse square in downtown Spencer. Participants will pay $5.00 for a section of sidewalk and will be judged in three different age categories. Registration will begin at 8 a.m. Each participant should bring their own chalk, but extra will be available for purchase on site if needed
